**Assam Government to Probe Singer Zubeen Garg’s Death in Singapore**
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Saturday that the state government will conduct an inquiry into the death of renowned singer Zubeen Garg. The veteran artist, also known as Ya Ali, tragically passed away in a scuba diving accident in Singapore on Friday, September 19. He was 52 years old.
The news of Zubeen Garg’s untimely demise was confirmed by Assam Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal via social media on Friday afternoon, sending shockwaves through the music fraternity and fans alike.
Following the suspicious circumstances surrounding the singer’s death, an FIR has been lodged against North East India Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and Zubeen’s manager Siddhartha Sharma at the Morigaon police station, reports PTI.
Speaking to the media, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Assam Police will probe the death of Zubeen Garg, and both Mahanta and Sharma, along with those who were present with the singer in his last moments, will be interrogated.”
He further added, “There are reports that the singer was taken to a party the night before his death, and we are also trying to ascertain its veracity.”
According to reports, Zubeen Garg suffered a critical scuba diving accident. Singapore police rescued him from the sea and rushed him to a local hospital, where doctors provided emergency care in the ICU while closely monitoring his condition.
Zubeen had travelled to Singapore to perform at the Northeast Festival, scheduled for the day following the accident.
Singaporean authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident. The Chief Minister stated, “As the place of occurrence is not India, we will get the criminal part, if any, from that country. If he was taken from Assam with a wrong intent, we will look into this aspect from the state.”
He assured that the state government would impartially ascertain all facts related to Zubeen Garg’s death. “All arrangements will be made if anyone wants to provide information or come forward as a witness,” he said.
Addressing the suspicion surrounding the case, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasised the need for transparency, stating that “the matter should become absolutely clear to the people of the state so that nothing is hidden regarding the popular singer’s death.”
