Shivakumar, who holds the Bengaluru development portfolio, addressed the ongoing pothole issue, stating, “We are committed to resolving the pothole problem and are working in a systematic manner. Those who want to do politics may do so.”
He emphasized that no one intentionally creates potholes; they appear due to excessive rainfall. Providing figures, the Deputy Chief Minister said, “More than 7,000 potholes have already been filled, and about 5,000 more are yet to be repaired. For this reason, a report has been sought from the Police Commissioner. A system has been put in place for the public and everyone to report potholes whenever they notice them.”
Shivakumar also criticized BJP legislators for their inaction despite receiving funds. He stated, “Each BJP MLA has been allocated Rs 25 crore for their constituency. Even from my grants, funds have been given to the constituencies of BJP MLAs in the city without any discrimination. Yet, why have they not had the potholes filled? Let them first do their share of work and then indulge in politics.”
These remarks come amid growing public frustration over poor road conditions. Recently, BlackBuck co-founder and CEO Rajesh Yabaji took to X to announce that his company was relocating its office from the ORR-Bellandur belt, citing “very-very hard” commuting conditions with 1.5-hour one-way trips and crumbling roads.
Yabaji later clarified that BlackBuck was not leaving Bengaluru entirely but merely moving within the city.
Shivakumar reaffirmed that the government is setting politics aside to focus on the convenience of the public.
