In a stunning display of batting prowess, Indian vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has smashed the second-fastest century in women’s One Day Internationals (ODIs). The incredible feat came during the third match between India and Australia held at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday.

Mandhana reached her hundred off just 50 balls, falling short of Meg Lanning’s record for the fastest ton in Women’s ODIs by only five balls. Chasing a mammoth target of 413 runs, Mandhana provided India with a blazing start and kept her team firmly in the contest.

Explosive Knock: 23-ball Fifty and 50-ball Hundred

From the onset, Mandhana scored at a brisk pace. She first added 32 runs with fellow opener Pratika Rawal, who made 10, before putting on 53 runs alongside Harleen Deol, who scored 11. Later, with captain Harmanpreet Kaur (53), Mandhana built a crucial 121-run partnership for the 3rd wicket.

Though both Kaur and Mandhana were dismissed in quick succession leaving India at 216/4 in 21.1 overs, Mandhana’s innings remained memorable. She recorded a blistering 23-ball fifty and went on to complete her hundred in 50 balls. She was eventually dismissed by Grace Harris for a stunning 125 off 63 balls.

  • This marks the second year running that she has scored four hundreds in a calendar year in WODIs.

Smriti Mandhana Breaks Virat Kohli’s Record

Mandhana now holds the record for the fastest ODI hundred by an Indian, across both men’s and women’s cricket. She bettered Virat Kohli’s 52-ball hundred made against Australia in Jaipur in 2013.
