Microsoft has confirmed the launch of a new initiative called the Windows AI Labs program. This move is part of the company’s ongoing effort to introduce and test experimental artificial intelligence (AI)-powered features within its Windows operating system.
The existence of the program was first discovered by Windows testers who spotted references to Windows AI Labs in pre-release updates for Microsoft Paint last week.
**What is Windows AI Labs?**
The Windows AI Labs program is designed to provide users with an early look at upcoming AI features in Windows. According to Mike Harsh, Partner Director of Product Management at Microsoft, “The Windows AI Lab is a pilot acceleration program for validating novel AI feature ideas in Windows.”
The main objective of the program is to quickly gather customer feedback on aspects such as the usability of these features and the overall user interest. This feedback will help Microsoft refine and improve the AI enhancements before broader rollout.
**Testing New AI Features**
While Microsoft has not yet disclosed the full list of features to be tested under the program, the company has been actively adding AI capabilities across its apps. Recent updates include free AI-powered tools in Notepad, image generation features in Paint, and AI-driven actions in File Explorer.
Additionally, Microsoft has been enhancing Paint with advanced functionalities similar to those found in Photoshop, such as support for transparency and layers.
The Windows AI Labs program marks another step in Microsoft’s commitment to integrating intelligent features into Windows, enhancing user experience through innovative AI technology.
Stay tuned for more updates as Microsoft continues to expand its AI-powered offerings for Windows users.
