**Chennai-based start-up VyomIC has announced its ambitious plan to build India’s first private global satellite constellation aimed at providing high-precision positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services.**

Founded by IIT-Madras alumni Lokesh Kabdal, Vibhor Jain, and Anurag Patil, VyomIC recently secured $1.6 million in pre-seed funding to kickstart this groundbreaking project.

### Funding Details and Future Plans

The pre-seed funding round was led by Speciale Invest, with participation from BYT Capital and DeVC. The capital will be primarily used to advance the development of VyomIC’s low Earth orbit (LEO)-based PNT payload and support its upcoming spaceborne demonstration mission. Additionally, the funds will help scale the team hiring and bolster business development efforts.

This funding marks just the initial step towards VyomIC’s ultimate goal of deploying a constellation of LEO satellites dedicated to PNT services.

### An Innovative and Ambitious Approach

VyomIC is not simply aiming to create an Indian version of GPS; rather, it seeks to build a next-generation global navigation system focused on autonomy, heightened security, and superior precision.

The start-up’s technology is designed to deliver centimeter-level positioning accuracy and nanosecond-level timing—capabilities critical to sectors such as defense, finance, telecommunications, and autonomous systems.

### Advantages Over Existing Systems

VyomIC’s proposed constellation offers several key benefits over current satellite navigation systems like GPS and GLONASS. Its signals are engineered to be spoofing-proof and resistant to jamming, addressing long-standing vulnerabilities in today’s PNT infrastructure.

Operating through LEO satellites enables higher precision and faster signal convergence, alongside stronger signal power and improved coverage in urban environments. Importantly, it also facilitates indoor navigation, allowing PNT services inside buildings and other previously inaccessible closed spaces.

### Future Outlook and Implications

VyomIC envisions deploying a fully operational satellite constellation that delivers secure, real-time navigation and timing services to users worldwide. This system promises to underpin the next generation of autonomous technologies and critical sovereign infrastructures.

Vishesh Rajaram, representative of Speciale Invest, emphasized the significance of resilient navigation in today’s world shaped by autonomy, defense technologies, and time-sensitive infrastructure, stating:

*”In a world increasingly shaped by autonomy, defense tech, and time-critical infrastructure, resilient navigation becomes non-negotiable. VyomIC’s sovereign constellation addresses this need head-on.”*

VyomIC’s initiative marks a major step toward establishing India as a key player in satellite navigation technology and securing sovereign control over critical PNT services.
Stay tuned to witness the evolution of India’s own global navigation network.
