**Mumbai Airport Customs Officers Destroy Narcotics Worth Rs 239.57 Crore**
Mumbai Airport Customs officers recently carried out the disposal of a significant quantity of seized narcotic substances valued at Rs 239.57 crore. These drugs were confiscated across multiple cases and have now been destroyed in a controlled and environmentally safe manner.
**Quantity and Value of Seized Drugs**
According to Customs sources, the disposal exercise involved 213.687 kilograms of hydroponic weed and 2.655 kilograms of cocaine. The total market value of these seized narcotics amounts to Rs 239.57 crore in the illicit market.
The destruction process was conducted through incineration at the facilities of Mumbai Waste Management Limited located in MIDC Taloja. This ensured full compliance with statutory procedures as well as environmental safety norms.
**Zero Tolerance Policy Against Narcotics**
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India has adopted a strict ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy against narcotics with the aim to create a drugs-free India. In alignment with this policy, the destroyed drugs were incinerated as per the Hazardous & Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules at the Common Hazardous Waste Treatment Storage & Disposal Facility, Taloja.
An official explained the destruction procedure, stating, “After the drugs are seized, they are stored securely in government maalkhaanas or warehouses. The disposal process is defined under the NDPS Act. We take independent panch witnesses and police escort to transport the drugs to the destruction facility. After obtaining permission from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), the drugs are burnt in the incinerator. The destruction process is environmentally safe and does not cause pollution.”
