**Pune to Introduce Ten New Double-Decker Buses Following Successful Trial Runs**

Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) is set to introduce ten new double-decker buses in the city after successful trial runs on four key routes, officials announced on Friday. The PMPML board is scheduled to consider the formal proposal in an upcoming meeting, where a final decision will be made regarding the acquisition of these buses on lease.

According to PMPML officials, the move aims to enhance urban mobility and improve public transportation in Pune. Each double-decker bus costs approximately ₹2 crore, bringing the total estimated investment for ten buses to around ₹20 crore. However, PMPML plans to procure the vehicles on a hire basis rather than an outright purchase.

The recent pilot runs involved actual passengers and garnered positive feedback, signaling readiness for wider deployment. PMPML’s board—comprising officials from Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT), and the Regional Transport Office (RTO)—will make the final decision on the proposal.

Upon approval, Pune commuters can expect access to these high-capacity, modern double-decker buses, which are expected to improve commuter convenience and help ease congestion on major city routes.
