**IIT Indore to Invest Rs 624.57 Crore in Major Infrastructure Expansion Project**
Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore is set to invest a massive Rs 624.57 crore in a major infrastructure expansion under its capacity enhancement scheme. The foundation stone for this ambitious project was virtually laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conference from Odisha.
The ceremony held at IIT Indore was attended by Madhya Pradesh’s Water Resources Minister Tulsi Silawat. The expansion project, sanctioned through the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA), marks Phase III of the institute’s infrastructure development plan.

The Rs 624.57 crore project includes the construction of state-of-the-art academic buildings, residential facilities, and common & utility services, along with the procurement of advanced equipment. Major developments under this phase include:

– Lecture Hall Complex
– Industrial Research Park
– Department of Design
– Residential Complex
– Student Activity Centre
– Visitors’ Hostel
### Minister Tulsi Silawat Addresses the Gathering
Addressing attendees, Minister Silawat expressed pride in the expansion, stating, “It is a matter of pride for Madhya Pradesh that IIT Indore is expanding its capabilities with such visionary projects. The new infrastructure will provide better opportunities for students and researchers and will also contribute to the overall development of the state.”
He further lauded IIT Indore’s contributions to water conservation, highlighting the institute’s efforts in mapping over 1,000 km of the Narmada River basin in Madhya Pradesh. The water conservation initiatives on campus have reportedly led to an increase in groundwater levels in surrounding areas.
Looking ahead, Silawat mentioned IIT Indore’s ongoing work on the rejuvenation of the Kanhar and Gambhir rivers, in preparation for the upcoming Kumbh Mela in 2028. This initiative aims to ensure that devotees have access to clean and pure water from the Kshipra River.
### Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability
IIT Indore has revamped its teaching and learning methodologies in line with the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and has introduced new courses focusing on multidisciplinary research areas.
The minister also highlighted that IIT Indore has developed nine water conservation units on its campus dedicated to rainwater harvesting, wildlife conservation, and biodiversity enhancement.
Emphasizing the state government’s efforts in water management, irrigation, and access to clean drinking water in rural regions, Silawat urged students and researchers at IIT Indore to innovate and develop “sustainable and practical solutions.” These could include water conservation devices, smart sensors, or other environmentally friendly technologies.
