A group of youngsters was attempting to cross the railway tracks when tragedy struck. Due to the darkness and overcast weather, they failed to notice a speeding train in time, said Kumar, according to PTI.
The incident resulted in multiple casualties, with the deceased reportedly aged between 14 and 18 years and residents of the Kasba block. The lone survivor has been admitted to Purnea Medical College and Hospital for treatment, the station manager confirmed.
Following the incident, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed his grief over the deaths and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured person, as reported by PTI. In a condolence message, the CM also extended his sympathies to the bereaved family members and prayed for their strength during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Uttar Pradesh, a 45-year-old man was killed after being hit by a train near the Aliganj railway crossing in Lucknow on Wednesday, police said, according to PTI.
The deceased was identified as Guddu, a resident of Nirala Nagar. Following the accident, his wife contacted the police to report the matter. A team of police officials rushed to the site and launched an investigation.
According to the police, Guddu’s body was found about 150 metres from the crossing, beneath the Vivekananda overbridge in the Hasanganj police station area. His body was recovered from the spot and later shifted to a hospital for an autopsy.
Officials confirmed that the police have initiated a probe and are continuing to investigate the case further.
