India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, accused Pakistan of conducting “systematic genocide” during a session at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Speaking at the Open Debate on Women, Peace, and Security, he slammed Pakistan as “a country that bombs its own people” and called out its attempts to distract the world with “misdirection and hyperbole.”
Ambassador Harish condemned Pakistan for what he described as a “delusional tirade” against India, particularly concerning Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized India’s unblemished record on the Women, Peace, and Security agenda, stating, “A country that bombs its own people, conducts systematic genocide, can only attempt to distract the world with misdirection and hyperbole.”
He further recalled Pakistan’s Operation Searchlight in 1971, highlighting the “systematic campaign of genocidal mass rape of 400,000 women citizens by its own army,” and added, “The world sees through Pakistan’s propaganda.”
The Indian envoy’s remarks followed comments by Counsellor Saima Saleem of Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, who alleged that Kashmiri women have endured sexual violence for decades, describing it as a “weapon of war” during the ongoing occupation.
India’s response also reaffirmed its stance on Jammu and Kashmir, reiterating that the region “was, is and shall forever remain an integral part of the country.” Last week, New Delhi once again criticized Pakistan, labeling it as a country with “one of the world’s worst human rights records.”
This exchange at the UNSC underscores the continuing tensions between India and Pakistan over Kashmir and highlights the ongoing international discourse on human rights and security in the region.
