The Bihar assembly elections are set to witness extensive security and logistical arrangements, with a total of 90,712 polling booths to be established across the state, the Election Commission announced on Monday.
In a unique approach to ensure smooth polling, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar revealed that in the Diara region, police will patrol using horses at least in 250 polling stations. Additionally, polling parties will travel by boat to reach 197 polling stations located in riverine areas to facilitate voting.
**Voting Updates: EVMs to Display Color Photographs**
For the first time since 2015, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will feature color photographs of candidates on ballot papers. This change addresses voter concerns regarding difficulties in identifying candidates due to the previously used black-and-white images. To enhance clarity further, the serial number of each candidate will be displayed more prominently on the machines.
Over 7.42 crore people are eligible to vote in this election, marking one of the largest voter turnouts in the state’s history.
**Election Schedule: Two Phases on November 6 and 11**
The Bihar assembly elections will be conducted in two phases across 243 constituencies on November 6 and November 11. Vote counting is scheduled for November 14.
While announcing the election dates, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar emphasized the importance of revising voter lists before every election. He addressed opposition criticisms surrounding the Special Intensive Revision process implemented in poll-bound Bihar.
**Voter List Revision and Appeal to Voters**
Commissioner Kumar highlighted that the Special Intensive Revision has “purified” Bihar’s voter list after 22 years, ensuring greater accuracy and transparency. He expressed gratitude to voters for their active participation in the revision process.
Appealing to the people of Bihar, Kumar encouraged everyone to participate enthusiastically in the upcoming elections, stating, “I appeal to all the voters of Bihar to celebrate this festival of democracy with the same enthusiasm as you celebrate Chhath.”
