Novak Djokovic banished exhaustion and played through an ankle injury scare on Tuesday to secure his place in the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters.

He defeated Spain’s Jaume Munar in a hard-fought match, with a score of 6-3, 5-7, 6-2.

This hard-won victory keeps Djokovic on track as the favorite to claim a record-extending fifth title in the Chinese financial hub, especially with other top seeds already out of contention.
