**India Condemns Pakistan’s ‘Delusional Tirades’ at UN**
During a United Nations Security Council debate on women and security, India strongly criticized Pakistan for its “delusional tirades” regarding Jammu and Kashmir. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, highlighted Pakistan’s history of human rights abuses, pointing to the alleged genocidal mass rape of 400,000 women during Operation Searchlight in 1971.

**Reminder of Operation Searchlight Atrocities**
Operation Searchlight was a brutal military crackdown by Pakistan’s regime in then East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) aimed at suppressing Bengali nationalism. This campaign involved mass killings and sexual violence on a massive scale. Historians estimate that between 300,000 to three million people were killed during this period.
Responding directly to Pakistan’s representative, Saima Saleem, who raised Kashmir-related issues, Harish said:
> “This is a country that conducted Operation Searchlight in 1971 and sanctioned a systematic campaign of genocidal mass rape of 400,000 women citizens by its own army. The world sees through Pakistan’s propaganda.”
—
**Highlighting Recent Tragedies**
Harish also referred to a recent airstrike in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where over 30 people were killed by the Pakistani air force, underscoring ongoing violence in the region.
—
**Exposing Pakistan’s Propaganda Strategy**
India’s UN envoy accused Pakistan of employing “hyperbole and misdirection” to divert global attention from its own brutal past and ongoing internal repression. Harish’s remarks aimed to hold Pakistan accountable for its actions, contrasting them with India’s commitment to peace and human rights.

**India’s Commitment to Women’s Rights**
The UN debate coincided with the 25th anniversary of Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security. Harish emphasized India’s dedication to protecting women’s rights during conflicts and promoting their participation in peace processes, declaring:
> “Our record is unblemished.”
He positioned India as a responsible global actor advancing women’s security and empowerment, in stark contrast to Pakistan, which frequently invokes Kashmir to deflect scrutiny from internal issues and alleged sponsorship of terrorism.

**Earlier Remarks on Terrorism at the UN General Assembly**
Prior to this debate, India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, also condemned countries that “openly declare terrorism as state policy,” indirectly referring to Pakistan. He stated:
> “For decades now, major international terrorist attacks are traced back to that one country.”
Jaishankar cited the April 2025 murder of 26 innocent tourists in Pahalgam as a recent example of cross-border terrorism originating from Pakistan.

India’s firm stance at the UN reflects its efforts to counter false narratives, highlight historical atrocities, and affirm its dedication to peace, security, and women’s rights on the global stage.
