**Tejashwi Yadav is RJD’s CM Face, Not Mahagathbandhan’s: Congress Leader**

As the Bihar elections draw near, less than 30 days away, the opposition Mahagathbandhan remains undecided on its chief ministerial candidate. This indecision came to light when Congress leader Udit Raj stated that although Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav may be his party’s preferred choice for Chief Minister, he is not yet the consensus candidate for the entire opposition bloc.
**Collective Decision Pending**
Responding to questions about the CM face, Udit Raj told PTI, “Look, any supporter of any party can do that (name that party’s leader as Chief Minister), but the India bloc’s candidate has not been decided. Let us see what the Congress HQ decides.”
Back in August, Rahul Gandhi had also refrained from confirming Yadav as the CM candidate, stating, “INDIA bloc partners are working without tension. We will contest together and the results will be good.”
**Uncertain Endorsement Amidst Coalition Dynamics**
In a September interview with NDTV, Tejashwi Yadav firmly asserted that the grand coalition will not contest the Bihar assembly polls without projecting a clear chief ministerial face, which appeared to contradict Congress’s more cautious stance.
“Are we the BJP that we do not have any faces? We definitely will not contest the elections without projecting a Chief Ministerial face,” Yadav said emphatically.
**Congress Leaders’ Independent Approach**
Meanwhile, some Congress state leaders have shown a preference to contest independently, highlighting internal differences within the coalition.
The 2025 Bihar election holds significant stakes for the Mahagathbandhan as it seeks to unseat incumbent Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who has retained power since 2015 by switching alliances—earning him the nickname ‘Paltu Ram.’
Voting will be conducted in two phases on November 6 and 11, with results slated for declaration on November 14. The current Bihar Assembly’s term concludes on November 22.
