Two elite commandos from the Indian Army’s 5 PARA unit have gone missing in the Gadole forest area of Kokernag, South Kashmir. According to reports, the soldiers disappeared during a combing operation in the dense forest on October 6.
### Massive Search Operation Underway
In response, a large-scale search operation has been launched involving joint security forces, including multiple units of the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The forces are meticulously combing the dense forest to trace the missing commandos.
### Challenging Terrain and Weather Conditions
The Gadole forest is known for its difficult terrain featuring deep gorges and steep slopes, which complicates movement and search efforts. Historically, this area has been a hotspot for militant activity, with groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba having established bases there.
Adding to the challenges, the region experienced heavy snowfall on Monday evening, which may further hinder the ongoing search operations.
### Immediate Terror Involvement Ruled Out
In 2023, the same forest witnessed intense gunfights resulting in the deaths of several security personnel, including Army Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Donchak, and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Humayun Muzamil.
While official details remain limited, sources involved in the operation have ruled out any immediate terror involvement in the disappearance of the two commandos, as reported by India Today.
Security forces continue to comb every inch of the Gadole forest in hopes of locating the missing personnel, according to sources cited by the Indian Express. The search is ongoing, and updates are expected as the operation progresses.
