Dinesh Vijan has emerged as one of the most successful producers in the Indian film industry in the post-COVID era, achieving success with mid-budget films that do not rely on big stars. His upcoming project, *Thamma*, scheduled for release on Diwali 2025, is the much-anticipated follow-up to his Independence Day 2024 blockbuster *Stree 2*.
According to reliable sources, *Thamma* has become the most expensive film in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. With a final budget estimated around Rs. 125 crores (excluding print and publicity costs), and an additional Rs. 20 crores allocated for marketing, the total cost of the film is expected to be approximately Rs. 145 crores.
A source told Bollywood Hungama, “*Thamma* is the most expensive and ambitious film in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. Internationally reputed VFX companies are working on the project, which has pushed the budget to new heights.”
The source also confirmed that *Thamma* has surpassed *Stree 2* to claim the title of the universe’s costliest film. “*Stree 2* was produced with a budget of Rs. 125 crores, including print and publicity. *Thamma* is nearly Rs. 20 crores more expensive. Producer Dinesh Vijan is betting big on stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna to attract audiences. He firmly believes in the power of strong content, which has encouraged this substantial investment. Now, he is hoping the lead actors’ pull will translate into a successful opening day,” the source added.
This isn’t the first time Dinesh Vijan has taken the risk of backing a big-budget film. He had previously produced *Chhapaak* featuring Vicky Kaushal, which many considered a questionable business decision at the time. However, the film delivered both critically and commercially, and so did Vicky’s performance.
Confident in the potential of *Thamma* and its lead actors, Vijan has already labeled the film as his most prestigious project within the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe.
*Thamma* is slated to release on 21st October 2025. Early reports suggest that distributors have demanded up to 70 percent of the total screen showcasing at the Indian box office level, signaling strong anticipation for the film.
