Tonight on The Stevetendo Show, we’re taking a little break from *Mario Kart World* and swapping it out for another classic Super Mario adventure. While I’ve played *Super Mario Galaxy* on The Stevetendo Show before, I haven’t yet tackled its sequel — but that all changes tonight as we start a *Super Mario Galaxy 2* playthrough!
I have fond memories of *Super Mario Galaxy* on the Wii, and I also really enjoyed *Super Mario Galaxy 2*. However, I don’t think I ever actually finished it. The first *Galaxy* game launched Mario into space and introduced 3D platforming that wasn’t bound by traditional gravity rules. The sequel expanded upon that formula, adding new power-ups and — best of all — sending our beloved green dinosaur Yoshi into space alongside Mario.
Both *Super Mario Galaxy* titles received a similar treatment to *The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword* on modern platforms. They were brought over to the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 with updated controls that allow you to play without relying on motion controls — a feature that some players find frustrating.
We’re set to go live at 6 p.m. PDT / 9 p.m. EDT for the first episode of the *Super Mario Galaxy 2* playthrough. Shackers who want to join in on the fun can head over to the Shacknews Twitch channel, where *The Stevetendo Show* streams every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

This week, the show lineup is shaking up a bit. I’ve moved Shacker’s Choice night to Tuesday, where I’ll be playing *Crow Country* for the very first time. Then on Wednesday night, we’ll kick off *Pokemon Legends Z-A*. Don’t worry, *Donkey Kong Bananza* will be back next week to round out our lineup.
