FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A New Jersey police officer has been charged with misconduct after prosecutors allege he failed to respond promptly and properly investigate reports of a shooting that ultimately resulted in a double murder.
On the evening of August 1, Franklin Township Police Sergeant Kevin Bollaro was the on-duty officer when police received 911 calls reporting gunshots and screaming in Pittstown, a community about 60 miles from Manhattan in central New Jersey, according to the Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renee Robeson’s office.
Instead of responding immediately to the emergency, prosecutors say Bollaro drove nearly two miles away from the scene. During this time, he reportedly stopped at an ATM and a pizzeria, delaying his response to the critical situation.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the handling of emergency calls and the responsibilities of law enforcement officers during urgent situations. The charges against Sgt. Bollaro highlight the importance of prompt and appropriate action when citizens report violent crimes.
