The Las Vegas Raiders entered the 2025 NFL season with optimism. They landed a gem of a tight end, Brock Bowers, who set rookie records the year prior. Las Vegas also brought in Geno Smith from the Seattle Seahawks to stabilize the passing game. Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers came off a career year, adding to the team’s hopeful outlook.
However, nearly halfway through the season, the Raiders find themselves in last place once again. With a 2-5 record, they sit 3.5 games behind the Denver Broncos in the AFC West. This disappointing start has sparked talk of the team becoming sellers ahead of next week’s trade deadline.
Earlier this season, Meyers reportedly expressed a desire to be traded out of Las Vegas. Although that notion has cooled somewhat in recent weeks, a trade is still a possibility. According to NFL Insider Mike Garafolo, “The wide receiver for the Raiders have requested a trade multiple times. The Raiders just haven’t found a partner yet. I wouldn’t give up on this one just yet.”
The Raiders recently signed veteran receiver Tyler Lockett, who previously played with Geno Smith in Seattle. This reunion could signal that a trade involving Meyers is imminent. As Garafolo noted, “They did add Tyler Lockett, so if they lose Jakobi Meyers, they have another guy that can pick up the production.”
Meyers is having a difficult season with the Silver and Black. He has recorded just 29 catches on 43 targets for 329 yards and has yet to score a touchdown. This is a stark contrast to his previous season, where he caught 87 passes for 1,027 yards.
The former New England Patriots wide receiver will be a free agent after this season. Any team interested in acquiring him would likely be looking at a rental, which could be slowing down any potential trade discussions.
As the trade deadline approaches, Raiders fans will be watching closely to see what moves their team makes to turn the season around.
