**Sameer Wankhede Strongly Objects to Red Chillies Entertainment’s Defense of Netflix Series *The Ba***ds of Bollywood***
IRS officer and former NCB Mumbai Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede has taken a firm stand against Shah Rukh Khan-owned Red Chillies Entertainment’s defense of their Netflix web series *The Ba***ds of Bollywood*. Calling the show “a calculated hit job designed to settle personal scores,” Wankhede submitted a rejoinder before the Delhi High Court, dismissing the production house’s claim that the series is satire.
Wankhede contends that the show is a deliberate attempt to malign his reputation following the 2021 cruise ship drug raid case involving Aryan Khan, who directed the series. He alleged that the character of a government officer portrayed in the series was intentionally modeled on him, highlighting striking resemblances in appearance, speech, and even the use of his trademark phrase, “Satyamev Jayate.”
Describing the scene as a “premeditated, targeted campaign,” Wankhede stated it was designed to ridicule and destroy his reputation. He emphasized that “the defendants cannot hide behind the convenient veil of satire or artistic expression to justify a malicious act.”
On the other hand, Red Chillies Entertainment filed a reply defending *The Ba***ds of Bollywood* as situational satire on Bollywood, featuring exaggerated characters to highlight societal absurdities. The production company denied that the series contained any defamatory material and described Wankhede’s suit as “wholly misconceived, untenable in law, and devoid of merit.”
They also warned that removing the contested scene would disrupt the narrative flow of the series. Furthermore, the company pointed out that Wankhede was “already the subject of public ridicule and adverse commentary” before the show’s release.
The Delhi High Court has scheduled further hearings on November 10 and has directed all parties to submit written arguments ahead of the session.
