There are a surprising number of upgrade paths in **ARC Raiders**, and if you want to upgrade your chicken Scrappy in the Workshop, you’ll first need a **Dog Collar**. The Dog Collar can be somewhat difficult to find, but knowing where to look makes the process much easier.
### How to Get the Dog Collar in ARC Raiders
To obtain the Dog Collar, you need to search Residential loot areas, focusing particularly on cabinets, drawers, and suitcases within them. For example, I found mine in the Ruby Residence, located in the northwest portion of the Dam Battlegrounds.
If you want to increase your chances of finding one, visit loot zones marked specifically as Residential on maps like the Buried City. Look for the symbol of the little man on the map, and hover over marked locations to confirm they are Residential areas.
### Tips for Finding the Dog Collar
The main challenge in finding the Dog Collar is the vast loot pool that Residential areas pull from. I was lucky enough to find mine very early, but after several raids, I wasn’t able to find a second one. Because it’s a major upgrade item, prioritize putting the Dog Collar in your **Safe Pocket** once you find it. This ensures you can safely bring it back to Speranza.
### Upgrading Scrappy with the Dog Collar
Once you have the Dog Collar, head to your Workshop and select Scrappy. Hit the **Train** button to equip him with the upgrade. With this improvement, Scrappy will be able to collect more raw materials during your raids. You can then collect these materials from him when you return.
With only the Dog Collar upgrade, Scrappy will bring back five to seven units of each basic, gray-rarity crafting material after every raid, whether he survives or not. He can hold up to 50 units of each material.
While it’s usually best to collect what Scrappy finds after each raid, if your stash is full, you might want to let him hold onto his findings for a while.
### Additional Scrappy Upgrades
There are several other upgrades you can give Scrappy, but none of them can be applied without first finding the Dog Collar. So, securing this item is your top priority if you want to enhance your trusty companion.
