The trade deadline is fast approaching, and the Miami Dolphins might be open to parting with one of their featured defensive players. With the team currently holding a 2-7 record on the season, they may be sellers rather than buyers heading into November 4.
Among the names being tossed around is Minkah Fitzpatrick, who the club only reacquired in late June, with Miami sending Jalen Ramsey the other way as part of the deal. A three-time All-Pro safety who has been selected to five Pro Bowls, Fitzpatrick will undoubtedly generate plenty of interest from other teams. Where he ends up, though, is anybody’s guess.
Here are the top five best landing spots for the All-American safety:
### 5. Detroit Lions
The Super Bowl window for the Detroit Lions is now, and an experienced defensive player with the capabilities of Fitzpatrick would be a welcome addition to Dan Campbell’s team. The Lions locked up Aidan Hutchinson to a long-term deal, but as dominant as he is on the defensive line, they could use some help in the secondary.
Detroit cannot rely exclusively on sacks and an explosive offense to get to the big game; they need better pass coverage. So far in the 2025 season, they have allowed over 200 passing yards per game. Adding Fitzpatrick could significantly bolster their defense and improve their chances of making a deep playoff run.
### 4. Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills have been so close to getting back to the Super Bowl multiple times in recent seasons. For as explosive an offense as they have had, they have still fallen short against the Kansas City Chiefs. While Josh Allen has often played at a high level in those playoff games, the Bills’ secondary hasn’t been able to make as many crucial plays.
The ceiling for the Bills is a Super Bowl appearance, and they have a team that can get there. What always seems to get the better of them is a secondary—like the Chiefs’—making a few more game-changing plays. Fitzpatrick is a proven game-changer who could prove very valuable to them in the postseason.
### 3. Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh is a familiar place for Fitzpatrick, having played there for over five seasons. As we have come to expect, Mike Tomlin’s group is in the postseason mix and could use more help in the coverage game.
The team has been cycling through safeties, but even players like Kyle Duggar have underwhelmed. Fitzpatrick can still get the job done, plus he’s a face Tomlin knows well. Adjusting to the Steelers’ system should be relatively straightforward for him, making this a logical landing spot.
### 2. Green Bay Packers
Green Bay is currently sitting first in the NFC North and looks poised to be in Super Bowl contention this season. They made a big-time move just ahead of the season by adding Micah Parsons to their pass rush—a clear statement that they are ready to win now.
However, they need more help in pass coverage, and Fitzpatrick helps tremendously in that department. He’s fast, aggressive, and a heavy hitter who should be able to make game-changing plays that could turn the tide in Green Bay’s favor. Having him on the team would make them a squad to fear and could very well give them the edge needed for a deep playoff run.
### 1. Dallas Cowboys
The Micah Parsons trade gave Jerry Jones a lot of room to work with, and his Dallas Cowboys are still very much in the playoff hunt. They have two solid corners in Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland, but the safety position remains an area of concern.
Donovan Wilson and Malik Hooker have not often been 100% effective, and even when healthy, they haven’t produced as much as hoped. Fitzpatrick fills a big hole in the Cowboys’ defense as he’s strong in pass breakups and consistently racks up tackles.
Adding Minkah Fitzpatrick would strengthen Dallas’ defensive backfield substantially and could be the key to pushing their defense to the next level during the critical stretch of the season.

Wherever Fitzpatrick lands, his presence is sure to make an immediate impact. The trade deadline could bring some exciting changes—not just for Miami, but for any team looking to bolster their defense with one of the league’s premier safeties.
