Meghan Markle is reportedly making her big return to acting, eight years after stepping away from her Hollywood career. According to The Sun, the Duchess of Sussex is set to join the cast of “Close Personal Friends,” a new project starring Jack Quaid, Lily Collins, and Brie Larson.
“This is a massive moment for Meghan and signifies a return to doing what she truly loves,” a source from the Amazon MGM Studios production told the outlet on Wednesday. The insider also revealed that Meghan, mother of two, “has been swamped with offers but this one felt right.”
“It is Meghan’s way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set,” the source continued. “Everyone involved is super-excited, and have been sworn to secrecy about her involvement.”
The same source shared insight into Prince Harry’s reaction, stating, “Prince Harry is, of course, really supportive and quite simply wants Meghan to do whatever brings her joy.”
Reps for Markle did not immediately return requests for comment.
Meghan Markle’s decision to step back from acting came in 2017, coinciding with her engagement to Prince Harry. At the time, her Hollywood résumé included roles in “Remember Me,” “Horrible Bosses,” and, most notably, her long-running role in “Suits.” Addressing her departure, Meghan remarked, “It’s a new chapter, right? I’ve ticked this box, and I feel very proud of the work I’ve done there, and now it’s time to work with [Harry] as a team.”
USA Network, the broadcaster behind “Suits,” expressed heartfelt congratulations to Meghan and Prince Harry in a statement, saying, “Meghan has been a member of our family for seven years and it has been a joy to work with her. We want to thank her for her undeniable passion and dedication to ‘Suits,’ and we wish her the very best.”
Markle, now 44, made her final appearance on “Suits” in the Season 7 finale, which aired in April 2018, just a month before her royal wedding.
In 2020, Markle and Prince Harry stepped down from their roles as working members of the royal family and relocated to Southern California, paving the way for new opportunities—including Meghan’s anticipated return to the screen.
