SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Anthony Edwards scored 35 points and added six assists as the Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Utah Jazz 120-113 on Monday night. This victory marked Minnesota’s second win over Utah in just four days.
The Timberwolves have been in strong form recently, having beaten Utah 137-97 on Friday and Sacramento 144-117 on Sunday. With this latest win, Minnesota has won three straight games and five of its last six.
Edwards continued his impressive streak, posting his ninth consecutive game with 30 or more points. This marks the longest run of 30-point games against the Jazz by any NBA player. For Utah, Keyonte George led the team with 27 points, and Lauri Markkanen added 23 points. George’s back-to-back baskets helped spark a 10-0 run to close out the first quarter, giving the Jazz a 30-26 lead. He finished the quarter with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
Minnesota responded with a 10-0 run of their own to take a 47-46 lead late in the second quarter. Randle was instrumental in this push, scoring two baskets and assisting another. The Timberwolves extended their momentum, leading 66-55 early in the third quarter.
Starting with Randle’s reverse layup on the final play before halftime, Minnesota scored 15 unanswered points to surge ahead for good. Edwards played a key role in the run, scoring three baskets and assisting Randle twice. The Timberwolves dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Jazz 33-9 through the first 8½ minutes to build an 86-64 lead.
Although Utah cut the deficit to single digits multiple times in the fourth quarter, they never got closer than seven points, allowing Minnesota to secure the win.
