ARC Raiders received an update this week, introducing some new features that go beyond the base patch notes. One notable addition is a duo matchmaking system, which Embark Studios has been testing and recently implemented.
It’s important to clarify that this is not a separate duos mode. Instead, the system is designed to increase the likelihood that duo queues will be matched with other duo queues. The goal is to create a more balanced and enjoyable matchmaking experience. Additionally, Embark hopes to extend similar matchmaking logic to solo and trio queues in the future.
Embark Studios shared some insights about this duo matchmaking system in a recent update blog, which covered both the in-game store and matchmaking topics. According to the developers, the prioritization behind duo matchmaking works as follows:
The system tries to ensure that duos will matchmake against other duos, solos against solos, and trios against trios wherever possible. However, this is not guaranteed. Solo players may still find themselves matched against a squad or duo from time to time.
Embark Studios plans to monitor the system closely and make adjustments based on player feedback and matchmaking performance as the game evolves.
