CHICAGO (WLS) — A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a two-month-old boy earlier this year, Chicago police announced.
Anthony Evans of Chicago is facing murder charges in the death of baby Kayson Flowers, who died in April. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death a homicide, citing multiple injuries and signs of child abuse as the cause.
Evans was arrested earlier this week and is now charged with one felony count of murder with strong probability of death or injury.
Kayson’s mother, Kayla Flowers, shared her heartbreak in an interview with ABC7 Chicago in May. “My son didn’t deserve that. He was only 2 months, 2 months. He can’t fight back,” she said. “This is heartbreaking for me seeing my child in that condition.”
Kayla explained that after Kayson was in someone else’s care for over a week, she picked him up on April 28. She was told he was asleep in his car seat before leaving. “Me, not thinking anything of it, because it was raining, I just took my baby to the house, because I didn’t want my child to get sick,” she recalled. “So, when I went in the house, I uncovered the stroller in the car seat, my baby was lifeless.”
Kayson was pronounced dead at the hospital later that day. However, doctors told the family he had likely been deceased for six to eight hours prior to his arrival.
Kayla is determined to seek justice for her son. “I want justice for my son. I’m not going to rest until I get justice,” she said.
No further information about Anthony Evans’ arrest has been released at this time.
