Subscribers of Disney Plus will soon have the ability to generate videos for the platform using AI, according to CEO Bob Iger. During an earnings call for the year’s end, Iger outlined plans for these new features, which come as part of agreements between technology providers and Disney, often referred to as the “House of Mouse.”

Disney Plus is set to undergo “the biggest and the most significant changes” to the service since its launch in 2019, Iger revealed, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. These changes will be both “from a product perspective, from a technology perspective,” and will include new ways for users to create and share videos on the platform.

“The other thing that we’re really excited about, that AI is going to give us the ability to do, is to provide users of Disney Plus with a much more engaged experience,” Iger added. This includes enabling subscribers to create user-generated content as well as consume short-form user-generated videos from others.

There have already been “productive conversations” between Disney and companies specializing in generative AI software. Iger emphasized the importance of integrating these features while safeguarding Disney’s intellectual property (IP). This approach continues the corporation’s evolving stance on AI, which came under scrutiny recently when the Marvel series *Secret Wars* faced backlash for using AI assets in its opening credits.

However, Iger’s announcement has sparked immediate backlash from some creators and fans. Dana Terrace, creator of the Disney original *The Owl House*, expressed her disapproval on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“Unsubscribe from Disney Plus. Pirate Owl House. I don’t care. Fuck gen AI.”

It seems that soon, users might be able to create their own homemade, potentially low-quality versions of beloved characters like Mickey Mouse or *The Lion King*, sharing them for others to see.

How Disney will roll out these AI-powered features and what impact they will have on the platform remains to be seen. For now, the company is venturing boldly into the future of content creation and user engagement on Disney Plus.
