**Director Stephen Shimek on “Murder at the Embassy”: Challenges, Cast, and the Future of the Miranda Green Trilogy**

Director Stephen Shimek, known for his diverse work spanning science fiction, family, horror, adventure, and fantasy films like *Dragon Hunter* (2009), *Dudes & Dragons* (2015), *The Adventure of A.R.I.: My Robot Friend* (2020), and *Nocturne* (2016), has ventured into the murder-mystery genre with the *Miranda Green* series. Drawing inspiration from Agatha Christie, this franchise stars Mischa Barton as private investigator Miranda Green. After 2023’s *Invitation to a Murder*, Shimek returns with the latest installment, *Murder at the Embassy*.

We spoke with Stephen Shimek about the making of *Murder at the Embassy*, the unique challenges of filming in Egypt, assembling the ensemble cast, and what’s next for the *Miranda Green* franchise.

### A Murder Mystery Set Against an International Backdrop

*Murder at the Embassy* follows Miranda Green as she investigates a murder at the British Embassy in Cairo. The case involves the theft of a top-secret document that threatens the security of Buckingham Palace and global peace. With high stakes and an exotic location, the film promises a thrilling mystery adventure.

### Battling the Egyptian Heat: Filming Challenges

When asked about the difficulties of shooting on location, Shimek shared the hardest part was enduring the intense heat of Egypt’s summer.

> “The very first day of location shooting was overwhelming—not just because of the climate, but the atmosphere as well. We began filming at the pyramids, which was stunning, but there was no shade since we were in the middle of the desert. Thankfully, a breeze helped cool things down.”

He continued, describing the varied challenges:

> “The next day, we moved to a backlot area with plenty of shade but no breeze due to surrounding flats. Every day had its own heat-related challenges, but filming on location brought an authentic magic to the screen that would’ve been impossible to replicate elsewhere. It was well worth it.”

### Working with a Talented Ensemble Cast

Shimek praised the professionalism and unique talents of the cast, including Mido Hamada, Raha Rahbari, Kojo Attah, Antonia Bernath, Nell Barlow, and Richard Dillane, alongside Mischa Barton.

> “Each actor brought their unique approach to their roles, and watching them interact on set brought the script’s dynamics to life. The casting process was surprisingly smooth, especially considering we were selecting actors across multiple continents. Once they were all together, the chemistry and tension among the characters—each suspicious of the others—felt authentic and electrifying.”

He described the cast as “phenomenal” and highlighted their contrasting personalities, which enhance the story’s intrigue and drama.

### Looking Ahead: The Future of the Miranda Green Trilogy

When asked about the next steps in the franchise, Shimek confirmed that pre-production is underway for the third film.

> “We are currently in pre-production for the third installment. While I can’t reveal many details, Miranda continues her globe-trotting adventures, discovering more about herself, mysteries, and murder. I’ve been collaborating with the same writer from *Murder at the Embassy*, and we’re aiming to deliver a fresh flavor and experience with each new film.”

He added that the third film will feel distinct from the first two, promising audiences another fun and unique mystery.

### *Murder at the Embassy* in Theaters November 14
