The Toronto Blue Jays made it to the World Series last season despite facing challenges such as a depleted bullpen and a struggling starting rotation. However, their lineup stood out as one of the best units in baseball, playing a crucial role in carrying the team to the postseason and beyond.
One of the biggest storylines heading into the offseason is the future of Bo Bichette. After a spectacular season in Toronto, Bichette is set to become a free agent. Having spent his entire professional career with the Blue Jays, he is now projected to command a contract worth around $189 million, according to Jim Bowden of The Athletic. This raises the possibility that Bichette could be leaving town this winter.
Despite this, Sportsnaut’s Matt Johnson recently predicted that Bichette will re-sign with the Blue Jays, a move that would be huge for the team’s future. Johnson wrote, “There’s something special in coming up with an organization, spending your early career experiencing the ups and downs of development and growth alongside an All-Star teammate, and then helping your team reach the World Series. All of this is to say that it feels like a matter of when, not if, Bo Bichette re-signs with the Toronto Blue Jays.”
Johnson also highlighted Bichette’s dedication, noting that he played through a knee injury during the World Series and was nearly the biggest reason the team came close to winning a championship. He added, “Toronto made the long-term commitment to Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and it truly feels like the Jays will keep the duo together.”
For the Blue Jays, retaining Bichette must be a top priority. He is one of the best players on the roster and a key piece in keeping the team competitive at the top of the American League. Signing him to a seven- or eight-year deal would be an ideal move to secure the team’s future success.
While other top teams are sure to pursue Bichette aggressively, the Blue Jays need to do everything in their power to make him their No. 1 priority this offseason.
