Hytale was a sandbox RPG that was in development under Hypixel Studio until the project was acquired by Riot Games in 2020. It was canceled earlier this year and it looked like that was the end of the story, but original developer Hypixel and one of its co-founders, Simon Collins-Laflamme, have re-acquired the Hytale IP from Riot. The studio will renew development and take on responsibility of launching Hytale. Collins-Laflamme and Riot Games confirmed the acquisition of Hytale by Hypixel Studio on social media this week, with Collins-Laflamme ultimately thanking Riot for allowing Hypixel a chance to pick up where Riot left off with Hytale earlier this year. While Hypixel was initially looking like it would shut down, it looks like the studio has found the footing to continue on independently with work on Hytale. The group was the initial developer of Hytale, which is said to be a voxel-based sandbox fantasy RPG. While Hytale had been in development quietly under Riot Games, it hadn’t seen release yet and it looked like it never would.
