Actor Michelle Monaghan told Newsweek she would be excited to reprise Maggie Hart in a True Detective reboot, saying she hopes to persuade Woody Harrelson to “rethink” his past comments that he would not return for another season. What To Know Monaghan, 49, first made her name in film, with notable roles in the Mission: Impossible franchise, before making a splash on television in the first season of True Detective. Her character, the female lead, is married to and later divorces Martin Hart, played by Harrelson, a homicide detective who works alongside Rust Cohle, portrayed by Matthew McConaughey. She told Newsweek that she would be open to reprising her role in a potential reboot of the acclaimed crime drama, adding that “Matthew and I need to sit down with Woody and tell him to rethink that answer.” In late October, Harrelson told Today there is “no chance” of reuniting the cast for a new season of True Detective. He continued, “Never. No chance. Because it turned out great. I love that it turned out the way it did, and if anything, doing another season would, I think, tarnish that.” Monaghan called the series “such a special project,” enough so that while filming, “it was palpable that we were making something special.” She spoke very highly of the cast, crew, writing, and experience filming, saying prior to shooting, she was “so taken with the writing,” calling it “was unlike anything that I had read before.” “That project really meant something for me, professionally,” she said. Monaghan is no stranger to reprisals or reboots, having acted in Mission: Impossible Fallout and the forthcoming sequel to the action comedy, The Family Plan. The film, which will be available on Apple TV on Friday, follows the Hughes family, with Dan played by Mark Wahlberg and Monaghan as Jessica, as they travel to London and Paris for a vacation. Monaghan, who is a mother to a 17-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son, said when she first received the script for The Family Plan, she “really related to so many of the dynamics, the family dynamics.” In a different vein, the actress said she was “really nervous to play Jacqueline” in the third season of The White Lotus, given that her character was an actress, saying “it honestly felt really close to the bone,” and that she was fearful she would make her character “too cliche.” In the forthcoming film sequel, Monaghan does a lot of her stunts, telling Newsweek, “I can’t say 100 percent of them, I do as much as they’ll allow me to do because I do love stunts,” adding that she loves to skydive and bungee jump. It wasn’t until the Mission: Impossible franchise that she “discovered any kind of body awareness” and began training with professionals. In The Family Plan, she plays a decathlete, competing in the long jump. The new film, much like the first, has moments of improvisation, with Monaghan noting, “It’s a great muscle to flex when asked to do it, I just really try to lean into it.”.
