Caleb Marchan scored 14 points as Newark Tech defeated Ramapo, ranked No. 13 in the NJ.com Top 20, by a close margin of 52-49 at the New Year’s Jump Off held at Paterson STEAM.
Newark Tech established a strong lead early on, going into halftime ahead at 33-20. Although Ramapo managed to cut the lead down to seven points after three quarters, Newark Tech held on for the victory despite being outscored 16-12 in the fourth quarter.
In addition to Marchan’s performance, Va’Shaun Harper contributed 12 points for Newark Tech, helping secure the win.
With the victory, Newark Tech improves to a 6-2 record and will face Roselle in the EssexFest on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Meanwhile, Ramapo (3-3) will travel to Westfield on Saturday at 5 p.m.
