Caleb Crawford scored 21 points, while TJ Biel and Mekhi Gray each added 17 as Maine held off a second-half comeback bid by Vermont to secure a 76-70 win in an America East men’s basketball game Thursday night in Orono.
Maine (6-18, 4-5 America East), which snapped a 30-game losing streak against Vermont in last year’s America East semifinals, led by 20 points early in the second half. However, the Catamounts (14-10, 6-3) started to chip away at the deficit as the game progressed.
Despite the pressure and having two players — Logan Carey and Ace Flagg — foul out, the Black Bears managed to stay in front and hold on for the victory.
For Vermont, TJ Hurley scored a game-high 27 points, with 21 of those coming in the second half in an effort to rally his team back into contention.
