CHICAGO (WLS) — As you plan your spring and summer travels, here’s an important tip to help you avoid travel scams.
The tech security group BrandShield has reported a surge in scammers flooding the internet with fake travel websites designed to steal your money. Their latest analysis uncovered thousands of suspicious links posing as legitimate travel brands.
Be cautious about the websites you click on when searching for travel deals. Scammers often create lookalike sites with slightly altered URLs to trick you into believing they are authentic.
To protect yourself, always look for “https” and the padlock icon in the website’s address bar, which indicate a secure connection. Beware of sites that have poor spelling or lack customer support—these are major red flags.
Additionally, take your time and don’t rush your decisions. Scammers frequently use urgency tactics like “last chance” deals to pressure you into quick purchases.
Finally, if a price seems too good to be true, it probably is. Stay vigilant and happy travels!
