Zimbabwe has announced the release of veteran batsman Sean Williams from their squad for the Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Region Final. The 39-year-old was withdrawn from the team due to personal reasons. In his place, Clive Madande has been called up to strengthen the squad.
This change comes after Zimbabwe’s successful start to the tournament, where they secured a five-wicket victory over Uganda in their opening match.
### Match Highlights
In the opening match, Zimbabwe showcased a strong performance. Bowlers Blessing Muzarabani and Brad Evans were standout performers, each taking three wickets. On the batting front, Brian Bennett played a crucial role by scoring a quickfire 72 runs off just 44 balls, helping Zimbabwe chase down Uganda’s target of 153 runs comfortably with 15 balls to spare.
Notably, Sean Williams did not feature in this match due to his personal commitments.
### Sean Williams’ T20I Achievements
Sean Williams is one of Zimbabwe’s most accomplished T20I cricketers. He is currently the country’s second-highest run-scorer in T20 Internationals, having amassed 1,805 runs in 85 matches at a strike rate of 128.28. His tally includes 12 half-centuries. Only Sikandar Raza, with 2,603 runs, ranks higher than Williams in terms of T20I runs for Zimbabwe.
