**Bangladesh Army Accused of Killing Tribal People and Burning Homes in Khagrachari**
The Rights & Risks Analysis Group (RRAG), an organization dedicated to preventing human rights violations, has alleged that the Bangladesh Army killed at least four tribal people and injured over 40 others during indiscriminate firing on Sunday in the Guimara area of Khagrachari district, located in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
According to RRAG, following the firing, the Army allowed alleged illegal settlers to burn down houses belonging to tribal families in the Ramsu Bazaar area. Most of the affected individuals belong to indigenous tribal communities.
The violent incident reportedly came after days of protests led by the Jumma Chatra Janata group. The protests began after a Class 8 girl was allegedly gang-raped on September 23, 2025, in Singhinala village, also within Khagrachari. RRAG stated that protesters are outraged as the accused have not yet been arrested, fueling continued demonstrations.
RRAG Director Suhas Chakma strongly condemned the actions of the Bangladesh Army, stating, “Instead of arresting the rapists, the Bangladeshi Army personnel have been violating the rights of indigenous protesters and today resorted to killing peaceful demonstrators. The firing, followed by the burning of tribal homes, shows the attacks were pre-planned.”
In response to these alleged human rights violations, RRAG has called on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take diplomatic action by downgrading ties with what it described as the unelected government of Dr. Mohammad Yunus in Bangladesh.
Furthermore, the organization announced that it will raise the issue at the ongoing 60th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva this week.
So far, there has been no official response from the Bangladesh government or military regarding the allegations.
