**Thursday Murder Club Creator Richard Osman Reveals Why He Turned Down The Celebrity Traitors**
Richard Osman, the creator of the popular *Thursday Murder Club* series, has revealed that he turned down an invitation to appear on the upcoming BBC reality gameshow *The Celebrity Traitors*. The 54-year-old said he would have only taken part in the first celebrity edition if he had been guaranteed the role of a traitor. The show is set to launch on October 8th.
Speaking to ITV’s *Good Morning Britain*, Osman was asked if he had been invited to participate in the series. He replied:
“I was, everyone who’s been on *Celebrity Traitors* won’t tell you anything. Normally, people will say if they’ve been on *Celebrity Catchphrase*, they go, ‘I’d watch that, I think I did quite well.’ *Celebrity Traitors*, nobody is saying a single word. I’ve been working with Celia Imrie, and she won’t say anything about what happened, none of them will say.”
Osman explained why he declined the offer:
“I love *Celebrity Traitors*, but I said I would only do it if I could be a traitor. Only because I couldn’t bear if I was a faithful—that thing where you go back to your room at night and you’re just lying there, and you know that there’s three people up in that tower filming, having a load of fun wearing cloaks and filming something. I’d be lying there just going, well, I mean, I could be murdered any second, I wouldn’t have that control, and obviously, they can’t say, yes, you can be a traitor, so yeah, I’m just going to watch.”
The show will feature 19 famous faces, including *Thursday Murder Club* star Celia Imrie, retired Olympic diver Tom Daley, and actor Stephen Fry. They will gather in the Scottish Highlands to compete for a cash prize of up to £100,000, which will be donated to a charity of their choice.
When Osman was later told that he could now never appear on the show because everyone would know he was a traitor, he responded with a laugh: “Am I double bluffing?”
*The Celebrity Traitors* challenges contestants to identify the traitors among the group while completing a series of tasks to raise money for the prize pot. If a traitor remains at the end of the series, the faithful contestants lose out on the prize, and the traitor wins the entire amount.
Osman also addressed rumours about his potential involvement in other shows. He confirmed that he would definitely not be appearing on the BBC’s *Strictly Come Dancing*, despite describing it as “a beautiful bit of television.”
Additionally, he declined to comment on a sequel to the Netflix film adaptation of *The Thursday Murder Club*, but revealed it is the “most requested sequel in Netflix history.”
At the time of the interview, Osman was promoting the latest release in the *Thursday Murder Club* book series, *The Impossible Fortune*, which was published on September 25th. He has so far authored four books in the series:
– *The Thursday Murder Club* (2020)
– *The Man Who Died Twice* (2021)
– *The Bullet That Missed* (2022)
– *The Last Devil To Die* (2023)
Richard Osman became a household name as co-host of the BBC quiz show *Pointless*, alongside Alexander Armstrong. He left the show in 2022 to focus on his writing career, having co-hosted since its debut in 2009.
