Itanagar: In the wake of the tragic deaths of 14 children in Madhya Pradesh linked to the consumption of Coldrif cough syrup, the Arunachal Pradesh government has announced a ban on the sale and use of the medicine.
The Arunachal Pradesh Drugs Control has issued an advisory prohibiting the sale, distribution, and stocking of Coldrif cough syrup, which is manufactured by Sresan Pharmaceutical. This decision follows reports connecting the cough syrup to child fatalities in other states, including Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Dr. Komling Perme, Arunachal Pradesh Drugs Controller, stated that the advisory aligns with a general recommendation from the Director General of Health Services, Government of India, regarding the rational use of the cough syrup in the pediatric population.
The Health Department has directed all stockists and retailers to halt the purchase, sale, or stocking of the product for public consumption. Those currently in possession of Coldrif cough syrup must immediately report to the local drugs control authority.
Additionally, physicians in both government and private hospitals have been urged to exercise caution when prescribing cough syrup to children.
The department has also advised the general public to avoid using Coldrif cough syrup until further notice.
