Afghanistan batters Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Rahmat Shah played solid innings, striking crucial fifties against Bangladesh in the 1st ODI at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Chasing a target of 222, Afghanistan reached 226/5 in 47.1 overs to clinch a thrilling victory.

Both Gurbaz and Shah reached their half-centuries before getting dismissed. Their partnership of 78 runs was pivotal in stabilizing the innings after Afghanistan had slipped to 58/2. Gurbaz had earlier added 52 runs for the first wicket with Ibrahim Zadran. However, the score quickly shifted from 136/2 to 136/4 as both Shah and Gurbaz fell in consecutive overs—Shah to Tanzim Hasan Sakib in the 31st over, followed by Gurbaz to Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the next.

Rahmat Shah’s well-crafted 50 came off 70 balls and included 2 boundaries. This innings marked a significant milestone for Shah, as he surpassed 4,000 ODI runs. He now boasts 4,025 runs from 124 matches (119 innings) at an impressive average of 35.30. This was Shah’s 32nd fifty in One Day Internationals, along with five centuries to his name.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Shah has accumulated 448 runs from 18 matches against Bangladesh, averaging 24.88, including four fifties.

In addition to his ODI achievements, this was Shah’s 49th fifty in List A cricket. Over 194 matches (186 innings), he has amassed 6,723 runs at an average close to 39, featuring 11 centuries along with his 49 half-centuries.
