Every so often, we come across cat haters on social media perpetuating the lie that cats are aloof creatures—that they don’t care about their humans and only tolerate us because we provide food. Of course, this is simply not true. Anyone with even a remote knowledge of cats knows this is a misconception.
Cats love their humans deeply; it’s not even a question.
That said, some cats really are more antisocial than others. But that doesn’t mean they represent all cats. Just as some humans may not like other humans, it’s unfair to generalize that trait to everyone.
These particular cats aren’t necessarily indifferent to humans—they often don’t like just about anyone. Only a few lucky individuals manage to breach their walls and melt their seemingly stone-cold hearts. It takes a lot of work, perseverance, patience, and the ability to face rejection repeatedly.
If there is one creature in the world that embodies all of these qualities in abundance, it is, of course, kittens.
