New Yorkers flocked to the polls in the hotly contested mayoral race during the first two days of early voting, with turnout totals five times higher than four years ago, city data showed.

A total of 164,190 voters checked in on Saturday and Sunday across the five boroughs, marking a massive increase over the 31,176 ballots cast in the first two days of early voting in 2021. That year, eventual winner Eric Adams faced off against Republican Curtis Sliwa, according to Board of Elections data.

This year, Democratic nominee and front-runner Zohran Mamdani is competing against GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa and independent candidate former Governor Andrew Cuomo.

“New Yorkers are showing up for early voting and in strong numbers,” said Vincent Ignizio, deputy executive director at the Board of Elections. “Nearly 165,000 voters have already cast their ballots at 156 sites this weekend. Every vote counts. Check your early voting site and hours at vote.nyc. Early voting continues daily through next Sunday, November 2.”

Turnout was particularly strong in Manhattan, which nearly matched the turnout of more populous Brooklyn. In Brooklyn, 49,432 residents showed up to vote, followed closely by Manhattan with 49,191 check-ins.

In Manhattan, incumbent District Attorney Alvin Bragg is running for re-election, facing challenges from Republican Maud Maron and independent Diana Florence, a former prosecutor.

Queens saw 38,791 voters during the first two days, while the Bronx recorded 14,225 check-ins and Staten Island had 12,551 voters.

With 5.2 million registered voters in the city, in-person voting will take place on November 4.

Be sure to participate and make your voice heard in this important election.
