LSU has decided to fire head coach Brian Kelly, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. This decision comes following the Tigers’ loss to Texas A&M this past weekend, which dropped their record to 5-3 on the season.
Kelly was in his fourth season with LSU and posted an overall record of 34-14. Despite high expectations for this season, the Tigers have struggled to meet them, currently sitting at 5-3.
Over his coaching career, Brian Kelly has amassed a 200-76 record, with previous coaching stops at Central Michigan, Cincinnati, and Notre Dame before taking the head coaching position at LSU. The buyout for Kelly’s contract is reportedly $54 million.
As of now, LSU has not named an interim head coach. The Tigers will join several other prominent coaching vacancies this season, including positions at Penn State and Florida.
