Recently, following an ad by Ian Jaeger, Mickelson promptly responded. In his reply to the X post, the seasoned golfer urged US President Donald Trump to protect Japan and other US allies in Asia and the South Pacific region. Apart from placing this request, Mickelson emphasized that the USA “cannot be dependent” on Chinese and Russian tankers for fuel.
Phil Mickelson wrote:
“@realDonaldTrump pls protect Japan and all our allies in Asia and S Pacific. Our military needs fuel to do that. We can’t be dependent on foreign oil and Chinese and Russian tankers for CA oil which supplies dozens of our military bases.”
After the meeting between Trump and Japanese Emperor Naruhito, the White House shared how the USA has secured a strong political alliance with Japan. As a Trump supporter, Mickelson praised the White House and urged them to ensure the safety of the USA’s allies.
The six-time major champion commented on the X post:
“This is great. I hope you’re on top of the energy supply chain to our military bases. We can’t protect our allies in Asia with our current fuel reliance on foreign oil and Russian and Chinese tankers. Any conflict leaves us with 3 days of operations. Please protect our allies.”
Mickelson has been vocally protesting the use of Chinese COSCO and Russian Sovcomflot tankers for supplying oil to the military. Prior to this, he had criticized a well-known Democrat for energy policies in California.

On October 26, the California native took a strong stance against Governor Gavin Newsom’s energy policies, accusing him of being “the biggest NATIONAL SECURITY THREAT.” Mickelson questioned Newsom’s intentions regarding the use of Chinese and Russian tankers and accused him of ignoring vital oil sanctions policies that were renewed under Presidents Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
The golfer stated:
“Policies put in place by President Biden in 2022 and just renewed by President Trump are being disregarded and ignored by Governor Newsom.”
In another post on X, Mickelson wrote:
“@CAgovernor has no problem harming every Californian with ridiculous energy costs. BUT his policies have put every American and the entire South Pacific in harm’s way and is currently the biggest NATIONAL SECURITY THREAT. Is he really this incompetent? His blatant sabotage…”
Mickelson has publicly opposed Newsom’s actions and policies on X, even challenging the governor to a public “town hall debate” to discuss the ongoing issues surrounding Sable Offshore Corporation.
