The Bengals are sorely missing star quarterback Joe Burrow. The team won both of Burrow’s starts to begin the season, but those victories came at a high cost. The franchise quarterback left the second game of the campaign with a turf toe injury that is expected to sideline him for at least six months — a timeline that’s considered optimistic.
Since Burrow’s injury, the Bengals have struggled, going 1-5 in his absence. In a last-ditch effort to turn things around, Cincinnati made a trade with their rivals, the Cleveland Browns, to bring in veteran quarterback Joe Flacco. Flacco has been responsible for the Bengals’ lone win since Burrow went down but is now questionable for this weekend’s clash with the Chicago Bears.
Despite the recent setbacks, the Bengals received some encouraging news earlier this week regarding Burrow’s rehab process. If the team can keep the ship afloat, Burrow’s recovery is progressing well enough that he could return for a playoff run. Mike Petraglia reported, “Joe Burrow has progressed to no walking boot. Strolls through locker room in normal athletic running shoes.”
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor confirmed this positive trend during a recent press conference. According to SleeperBengals, Taylor said, “Joe Burrow’s rehab so far has gone ‘as we hoped.’”
Fans quickly reacted to the news on social media. One fan tweeted, “We’ll see ya in 2026 man, hopefully without that clown at head coach.” Another commented, “Well, there isn’t much to rehab for turf toe surgery besides rest, walking, then gradually increasing mobility and agility.” A third fan wrote, “Did Zac say when he plans on firing himself?”
It’ll certainly be interesting to see if Joe Burrow suits up again this season and how the Bengals perform down the stretch.
