**Drone Sighting at Berlin Airport Suspends Flights for Nearly Two Hours**
A late evening drone sighting at Berlin Brandenburg Airport caused flight suspensions for nearly two hours on Friday night, before air travel returned to normal on Saturday morning, according to the news agency dpa.
Flights were halted between 8:08 p.m. and 9:58 p.m. local time following reports of a drone near the airport. Local police told the Tagesspiegel newspaper that a witness had spotted a drone in the area. While police confirmed the sighting, they were unable to locate the drone.
Representatives from both the airport and police have yet to respond to requests for comment.
This incident is part of a growing concern across Europe, where drone intrusions into NATO airspace have surged to unprecedented levels this September. Some European officials have suggested that these drone sightings may be Moscow testing NATO’s response capabilities, raising questions about the alliance’s preparedness in the face of potential threats from Russia.
Similar events are occurring elsewhere in Germany; just last month, Munich Airport was forced to close twice within 24 hours due to drone sightings.
As such, European airports remain on high alert amid these ongoing security challenges.
