Hyundai has announced plans to launch an electric vehicle (EV) specifically designed for the Indian market. The upcoming model will be tailored to suit local driving conditions and customer preferences, according to the company. In addition to customization, the new EV will benefit from a localized supply chain, making ownership more accessible and affordable for Indian consumers.
While Hyundai has not yet revealed major details about the vehicle, the new India-specific EV is expected to debut in the coming years, marking a significant step in the company’s commitment to the local market.
### Hyundai’s Global EV Strategy
Hyundai’s future roadmap is centered on aggressive electrification and developing market-specific products. The company plans to introduce over 18 hybrid models and a mid-size pick-up truck for North America. For Europe, Hyundai is preparing region-specific EVs like the IONIQ 3.
Amid these global launches, Hyundai is also focusing on a model uniquely designed for Indian driving conditions and customer needs, highlighting India’s growing importance in their global EV strategy.
### Hyundai’s Production Plans and India’s Role
India will play a crucial role in Hyundai’s global production strategy. The Pune facility is expected to produce 250,000 units by 2030, contributing to Hyundai’s larger goal of increasing worldwide capacity by 1.2 million units.
Hyundai has set an ambitious target to achieve 5.55 million global vehicle sales by 2030, with electrified models forming a major part of this growth. The company anticipates that electrified vehicles will account for approximately 60% of its total sales — around 3.3 million units annually.
With this focused approach, Hyundai aims to strengthen its position in the Indian EV market while advancing its global electrification ambitions.
