## How To Solve Today’s Wordle

### How To Play Wordle
Wordle is a daily word puzzle where your goal is to guess a hidden five-letter word within six tries or fewer. After each guess, the game provides feedback to guide you toward the answer:

– **Green:** The letter is in the word and in the correct spot.
– **Yellow:** The letter is in the word but in the wrong spot.
– **Gray:** The letter is not in the word at all.

Use these hints to narrow down your guesses. Every day brings a new word, and players around the world compete to solve the same puzzle.

Some Wordlers also enjoy playing **Competitive Wordle** against friends, family, the Wordle Bot, or even against me, your humble narrator! See the rules for Competitive Wordle toward the end of this post.

## Today’s Wordle Hints and Answer

– **Wordle Bot’s Starting Word:** SLATE
– **My Starting Word Today:** SCALE (121 words remaining)
– **The Hint:** Adding just a trace of something.
– **The Clue:** This Wordle begins with a consonant.

Okay, spoilers ahead—the answer is coming!

## The Answer: TINGE

### Wordle Bot Analysis
Every day, I rely on Wordle Bot to analyze my guessing strategy. You can check your own Wordle score with Wordle Bot [right here](#).

Starting with SCALE was a bit disappointing. Though it’s usually a strong first guess, this time it left me with 121 possible solutions and only one green “E.”

Next, I tried BOINK—using all new letters—which gave me two new yellow boxes, narrowing it down to six possible answers.

I almost went with HINGE next, but a little voice in the back of my mind said, “Haven’t we done HINGE already?” So instead, I went with TINGE. Lucky me—that was the Wordle!

## Competitive Wordle Score

I earned 1 point for guessing the word in three tries and another 1 point for beating the Bot. The Bot guessed in four and got 0 points but lost 1 point for losing to me.

Our November totals so far:
**Erik:** 8 points
**Wordle Bot:** 2 points

### How To Play Competitive Wordle

– Guessing in 1 try: 3 points
– Guessing in 2 tries: 2 points
– Guessing in 3 tries: 1 point
– Guessing in 4 tries: 0 points
– Guessing in 5 tries: -1 point
– Guessing in 6 tries: -2 points
– Missing the word: -3 points

If you beat your opponent, you get 1 point. Tie = 0 points; losing = -1 point.

You can keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day. Fridays are 2XP days, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.

## Today’s Wordle Definition & Etymology

**Tinge** comes from the Latin verb _tingere_, meaning “to dye, color, or moisten.” It entered English through Middle English _tingen_ and Old French _teindre_, both derived from the same Latin root.

Originally, the word referred to imparting a small amount of color or stain. Over time, its meaning broadened to include adding a slight trace or quality of any kind—such as emotion or flavor.
