TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Kip Lewis recorded seven tackles, including two sacks, as No. 11 Oklahoma stunned fourth-ranked Alabama 23-21 on Saturday, sending shock waves through the Southeastern Conference.
The Sooners (7-2, 4-2 SEC) capitalized on three takeaways, scoring 17 points off those turnovers. They also made a crucial defensive stop late in the game to end Alabama’s impressive winning streaks of eight games overall and 17 at home.
The Crimson Tide (8-2, 6-1 SEC) had a chance to reclaim the lead in the final minutes, but Ty Simpson’s fourth-down pass to Ryan Williams fell incomplete. Oklahoma then ran out the clock, sparking a raucous celebration among their visiting fans.
Despite being a six-point underdog according to BetMGM Sportsbook, Oklahoma managed just 212 yards of offense but made the most of their opportunities with an interception and two fumble recoveries.
Alabama still controls its destiny in the SEC championship race and can secure a spot by defeating rival Auburn in the Iron Bowl in two weeks.
