Michigan Football Secures Comeback Victory Over Northwestern; Welcomes New Quarterback Tommy Carr
Michigan football secured an impressive comeback victory over Northwestern, improving their season record to 8-2. The team has been led this season by freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood, who has been pivotal in their success so far.
Looking ahead, Michigan will add another quarterback to the roster. Tommy Carr, grandson of Michigan legend and former head coach Lloyd Carr, has committed to the Wolverines. According to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals, Carr’s commitment marks an exciting addition to the program.
Tommy Carr’s Journey to Michigan
Originally committed to Miami (OH), Tommy Carr flipped his commitment to Michigan after receiving a recent offer. A standout at Saline High School, Carr is a Mr. Football candidate and recently helped lead Saline to the Division 1 regional final, where they fell to Detroit Cass Tech.
As a two-year starter at Saline, Carr has garnered national attention. He is ranked as the 29th-best quarterback nationally by 247Sports and the seventh-best player in the state of Michigan. His arrival adds depth and talent to Michigan’s quarterback room.
The Carr Family Legacy at Michigan
The Carr family holds a storied history with Michigan football. Lloyd Carr began his Michigan career in 1980 as a defensive backs coach under Bo Schembechler. Over time, he was promoted to defensive coordinator and remained on the coaching staff when Gary Moeller took over in 1990. Carr eventually succeeded Moeller as head coach, leading the Wolverines to a remarkable 122-40 record, five Big Ten championships, and the 1997 National Championship.
Tommy’s father, Jason Carr, also played at Michigan from 1992 to 1995. Although he played sparingly—appearing in just 20 games and attempting 23 passes—he had the unique experience of finishing his playing career while his father was the head coach.
Meanwhile, Tommy’s older brother, CJ Carr, is currently the starting quarterback at rival Notre Dame. CJ chose Notre Dame to “branch out” from the family’s Michigan roots.
What Lies Ahead for Michigan’s Quarterbacks
Tommy Carr is expected to begin his Michigan career as a backup to Bryce Underwood. However, he will face competition from four-star recruit Brad Smigiel for playing time. The Wolverines’ quarterback situation looks competitive and promising as they finish the season.
Michigan will travel to face Maryland this week before hosting Ohio State to conclude the regular season. With the addition of Tommy Carr and strong performances from Underwood, Michigan is positioned to make a strong push down the stretch. Stay tuned for more updates on the Wolverines’ dynamic season.
