RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Carolina rookie Brandon Bussi made 15 saves to earn his first NHL shutout, and Nikolaj Ehlers scored at 2:52 of overtime as the Hurricanes beat the Calgary Flames 1-0 on Sunday for their second straight victory.
Ehlers found the back of the net after Taylor Hall put the puck on net, beating rookie goalie Devin Cooley. This was Ehlers’ fifth goal of the season and his first in seven games. Sean Walker also assisted on the play.
Bussi played back-to-back games for the first time in his NHL career, stopping all 15 shots he faced. Meanwhile, Flames goalie Cooley stopped 16 shots but couldn’t prevent the loss. The Flames have now been shut out three times this season and suffered just their second loss in the last six games.
Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal returned to the lineup after a three-game injury absence, playing slightly more than 14 minutes.
